Large-scale operation in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus! Due to a burning gas bottle, a kindergarten had to be evacuated and a sniper was called in.
Around 8 o’clock there was a large-scale operation in Oelweingasse in the 15th district of Vienna. During welding work in a retirement home, an acetylene gas cylinder caught fire and the fire also spread to parts of the wall and ceiling cladding in the hallway.
The alarmed forces of the Vienna professional fire brigade put out the fire and cooled the gas cylinder so that it could be carried into the inner courtyard of the dormitory. At the same time, residents were instructed to stay in safe areas of the house.
Shot at the gas bottle
A school sports field and a kindergarten adjacent to the playground were cleared for security while a Cobra sniper was called in.
The experienced police officer fired several shots at the gas cylinder from a safe position. The pressure managed to escape in a controlled manner through the bullet holes.
Firefighters ventilated the area of the fire in the nursing home and searched the apartments in the home. No additional hazards were identified. The Oelweingasse was closed throughout the operation until around 10:10 am
