AUSTRIA. The number of infections is increasing in this country and abroad this also has consequences for travelers to Austria. The State Serum Institute (SSI) placed Austria on the list of countries that do not meet Danish risk criteria on Thursday. Travelers returning to Denmark from Austria must now undergo a Covid-19 test.
The day before, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Austria, like the Netherlands and Portugal, had exceeded the Danish “pain threshold” of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week. Vienna, the federal capital, has been on the SSI “red list” since last week.
In contrast, countries whose family members return from Austria have strict regulations: people coming from Vienna must be quarantined in Switzerland and Germany.
Germany places Vienna on red list
Vienna was red-listed by Germany on Wednesday because there have been significantly more than 50 new infections per 100,000 residents since September 5. Travelers coming from Vienna must present a negative corona test that is no more than 48 hours old or return home immediately after arrival and be quarantined there for two weeks. Then it is mandatory to notify the health department immediately.
Hungary closed the borders
On September 1, Hungary closed its borders, initially until October 1. According to the conservative national government of Viktor Orbán, foreigners and returnees from Hungary would “bring” the coronavirus. There are exceptions, for example, for business travelers, artists, athletes and travelers, but currently it is not possible to take holiday trips to Hungary. Hungarians returning home must also be quarantined for 14 days. If a Covid 19 infection is suspected, this can also be ordered from official facilities if there is no place to live in Hungary.
Switzerland: Vienna as a risk zone
Switzerland has viewed Vienna as a risk area since Monday: anyone who has been in Vienna for more than 24 hours in ten days and who enters the Confederation must report to authorities within two days and be quarantined for ten days . Up to the equivalent of 9,300 euros will be owed if you do not comply. Even a negative Covid-19 test result does not eliminate the quarantine obligation or shorten the duration of the quarantine, as the Foreign Ministry emphasizes.
Travelers from the border regions (of Vorarlberg and Tyrol) are currently exempted from the quarantine obligation, even if the number of corona cases increases, it is emphasized. Anyone who comes from another federal state, but comes from Vienna’s Schwechat airport, known in Lower Austria, by plane, is saved from quarantine. The same rules apply to the Principality of Liechtenstein.
Slovakia advises against traveling to Austria
On Monday, Slovakia declared its neighboring country, the Czech Republic, a crown risk country with mandatory quarantine for travelers. There is only one recommendation for Austria: Slovaks should avoid unnecessary travel to Austria as much as possible. At the end of last week, the Bratislava crisis team had still discovered that Austria was “starting to enter the intermittent red zone”.
Cautious Slovenia
In Slovenia, currently no action is being taken against Austria, the number of infected people is also increasing there. Some regions are already on the “Red List”. Small open economies like Slovenia are also particularly affected by the measures.
Italy without restrictions
For Italy, Austria is still on the list of those countries from which you can enter without restrictions: you do not have to get tested for the corona virus or inform the authorities before traveling. Health authorities trust the new measures taken in Vienna to limit the epidemic.
