Health expert Martin Sprenger is considered a critic of the crown traffic light. On Wednesday night, he commented on the current situation of the crown.
Sprenger is considered one of Austria’s health experts when it comes to the corona virus. The physician, author, and health scientist at the Graz Medical University was originally part of the federal government’s Corona task force. However, he left this in April 2020 and said, among other things, that he doubted that the continuation of the lockdown measures made sense with regard to social side effects.
The doctor also has little left for the Corona traffic light, in its current version. Sprenger expressed concern multiple times that the stoplight change was based on political and not medical decisions. At the beginning of April, the health expert, together with the Complexity Science Hub (CSH), put their own corona traffic light on the network, on which positive cases per 10,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days are taken as a basis.
“Today a year ago in Austria there were 7,000 new flu cases a day, 50,000 flu infections a week, but we didn’t have a dashboard”
In the ORF “ZiB2” presented by Armin Wolf, Sprenger commented on the current situation. And at least it suggests that the fear of the corona is also due to the fact that the focus is now on daily infection numbers. “The concern that we somehow feel is based on the dashboard showing the positive cases,” Sprenger said. But it lacks the “comparison with previous years” for the spread of the virus.
“A year ago, there were 7,000 new flu cases a day in Austria today, 50,000 infections a week, but we didn’t have a dashboard,” Sprenger said. There is also no transparent information on what a corona case really means in a hospital. “I don’t have an objective definition for the whole thing,” Sprenger said. First it was about not overloading the hospital beds, now it is about the new daily cases, it is not clear what he will do.
“That is why I would like to have a comparison with the annual occurrence of the virus”
The “really dangerous” thing about the coronavirus is “that it gets into an area where it can cause damage,” such as in the health sector or in homes for the elderly and the elderly, according to the doctor. In general, one should ensure that the infection rate is not too high, but the expert also pointed out that strict measures for the general population are not absolutely necessary. Sprenger Comparison: Now you have to put on a mask and keep your distance, but with the flu of previous years, sick people would sit in droves at ordinations or visit their parents. “So I would like to see a comparison with the annual appearance of the virus,” said Sprenger.
The protective masks are “a detail” of the measures, in public spaces they are “still controversial even in science.” you have to see the masks in relation to the situation and the other measures, other things are more important, so Sprenger. At the traffic light in Corona, on the other hand, the doctor hopes that the policy will back down a little and that measures will be found for the regions of color that are “practicable.” Finally, Sprenger rates the rapid tests of the new crown as interesting, as he has yet to gain experience.
