On Monday, the traffic light in Corona was changed to orange for the first time in some parts of the country, including Vienna. But it seems that this has, meanwhile, a more or less symbolic character, because the hardening does not go hand in hand with the seven affected districts.
Rather, these are recommendations made by the responsible commission, such as intensifying the protection of care centers and hospitals, increasing the number of screening examinations in relevant areas such as care, health and education, as well as establishing preventive measures , for example, in the markets, and restrict Events in closed companies without the concept of security.
Orange reportedly made significant cuts to the original traffic light plans.
This last point in particular could be interesting if you are thinking about more important celebrations such as anniversaries, baptisms or weddings. According to government circles, it will be discussed in the coming days whether additional regulations are needed to implement the recommendations.
Of course, under the original stoplight plans, Orange would have made much bigger cuts. For example, only a maximum of 250 people would have been allowed in events with assigned seating in closed rooms, if there had been a possibility to return from homeschooling in the upper grades and the curfew had been advanced to midnight.
Now the traffic light obviously only has the task of increasing the attention of the population in the regions that are currently most affected. After all, the commission has also followed Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP), who last week urged focusing less on green than yellow and orange, after at least the number of cases parameter already I would have given it this nuance.
The increase in coronavirus infections triggered the turning on of traffic lights
You can still live relatively carefree in Salzburg, Carinthia and Burgenland as all districts are green. Upper Austria can only dream of that, because apart from the Innviertel, the whole country is now colored yellow. In Tirol, Innsbruck-Stadt and Kufstein they have been raised one level to orange, while the districts of Landeck and Innsbruck-Land are added to Schwaz in yellow. The Vorarlberg, which was previously completely green, is now divided into an orange area (Dornbirn, Bludenz) and a yellow area (Bregenz, Feldkirch). In Lower Austria, Mödling and Neunkirchen went from green to orange, many other districts are now yellow. Styria is not orange, but some districts such as the city of Graz and its surroundings are yellow.
At least for the moment, state politicians were quite satisfied with the Commission’s decisions. Vienna Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ) also “agreed” with the improvement of the federal capital. Vorarlberg Governor Markus Wallner (ÖVP) even wants the districts to be improved as he says he refuses to suggest to the population with a harmless traffic light that all is well.
The number of people infected with corona is likely to rise significantly back to 800 after the usual weekend recession. The Home Office reported 382 new infections on Monday morning, which was significantly less than 869 on Saturday, but again significantly more than exactly a week earlier, when 290 new infections were reported on Monday.
