With nearly 308,000 new infections worldwide in 24 hours, the WHO reported a record increase. The situation is also getting worse in Europe.

More new infections than ever
But crown numbers aren’t just skyrocketing in Austria. Many European countries have also reintroduced adjustment. The land of Israel, which has always been considered a role model, reimposed a blockade since Friday.
WHO is also raising the alarm. On Sunday night, the World Health Organization reported 308,000 new infections in 24 hours. There haven’t been that many since the start of the corona pandemic.
So far, more than 28.6 million infections have been reported worldwide. According to experts, the number of unreported cases should be significantly higher. According to WHO statistics (as of Sunday), 917,000 people have died from the infection worldwide.
The pioneers in terms of new infections in absolute terms are India, the United States and Brazil. Spain ranks fourth with 12,000 new infections in one day.
Massive increase in new infections in Spain, France and the Czech Republic
The growth in France is also spectacular. Recently, there were also more than 10,000 new cases in 24 hours. The Czech Republic on Friday reported an increase of more than 1,000 new infections. The German federal government had already declared Prague a risk zone.
In many countries, therefore, the measures have been tightened again, and in France there is even a requirement for a mask at work. Gatherings of more than six people have been banned in the UK from Monday.
WHO official curbs expectations about vaccine
WHO expects further tightening. Daily corona deaths in Europe are expected to rise in October and November according to estimates.
“It will be more difficult,” WHO regional director for Europe Hans Kluge told the AFP news agency on Monday. While the number of new infections in Europe is increasing, daily deaths have been relatively stable.
According to Kluge, “we will see an increase in mortality in October and November.” At the same time, the WHO official held back expectations for the vaccine. “I keep hearing: ‘The vaccine will be the end of the pandemic.’ Of course not!”. According to Kluge, it is not clear if one vaccine can help all population groups.
