Switzerland has included Vienna in the list of risk areas due to the increasing number of corona infections. Starting next Monday, quarantine requirements will apply to travelers from Vienna, as the Keystone-SDA news agency reported on Friday.
In addition to the Austrian capital, the British Virgin Islands, the Czech Republic and certain areas of France were also added to the list.
Switzerland only puts Vienna on the risk list
The current list of Swiss risks covers more than 50 countries and areas. The rest of Austria is not affected by the measure. In its neighboring countries, Switzerland only places regions, but not the entire country, on the risk list of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH). This happens when the number of corona cases is above the limit of 60 new infections per 100,000 people, when reliable information is lacking, or when people from regions that have been infected have repeatedly entered Switzerland. In Vienna, more than 80 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants were recently registered.
Participants from border regions exempted from the quarantine obligation
However, travelers from border regions, somewhat in Vorarlberg and Tyrol, are generally exempted from the quarantine obligation, even if the number of corona cases is supposed to increase. The Swiss Federal Council decided on Friday.
Also in Switzerland, the number of corona cases has increased continuously since mid-June. In general, the neighboring country, which has a similar number of inhabitants, has so far registered more infections and deaths per corona than Austria. About 46,000 infections and 2,000 deaths have been reported, according to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
