Following yesterday’s meeting of the Corona Commission, Health Minister Anschober announced the colors in which the Corona traffic light will shine. More recently, it indicated a medium risk, i.e. yellow, for Vienna, Graz, Linz and the Kufstein district, while the rest of the federal territory was green.
That will change now: as the ON already reported, Linz will turn green again. Freistadt also remains green. Vienna, Graz and Kufstein, however, remain in yellow. Then there are Innsbruck, Schwaz, Wiener Neustadt and Korneuburg. “He is getting serious again,” said Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (vice president) in view of the increasing number of infections in Austria. On Friday, 580 new cases were added in Austria.
The following measures are effective as of Monday:
- the Mask requirement It will not only be mandatory in public transport, pharmacies or grocery stores, but also in the rest of the trade, in restaurants (except in the square) and in schools (except in the classroom). Read more about regulations in schools in this article.
- Restrictions on Events: The maximum number of people for private celebrations is 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors. Large events where there are assigned seats are restricted to 1500 people indoors and 3000 people outdoors
- At Gastronomy The mask requirement applies to service personnel, consumption is only possible in closed rooms on the seat, so the bar area remains taboo.
Tighter measures in place in the long term
Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (VP) assumes that the strictest measures to contain the corona pandemic, which will come into force next Monday, will be valid in the long term. It assumes that they will accompany the population throughout the winter “and possibly beyond,” Kurz said at the end of the German government press conference.
“We are in the middle of a pandemic,” Kurz said. When asked to what extent Corona’s planned weekly traffic light change could confuse the population in light of the strict nationwide regulations that have now been adopted, the Chancellor emphasized that it is “maximum clarity, no confusion.”
Therefore, the increasing number of SARS-CoV-2 infections in districts and countries has been reacted. The established rules – mandatory use of masks in stores and restaurants, as well as in schools outside the classroom, significant restrictions on events and gatherings – “apply until the federal government sees the need to adjust or remove them again.” “In the next few weeks” she does not expect any relaxation, Kurz confirmed.
New measures may come
Kurz called on the Austrians to be more careful again and referred to the situation in Israel, which must be avoided in any case. Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Grne) pointed out once again the importance of speed with tests: “The faster the health authorities can react, the better the pandemic can be controlled.” Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Green) identified the need to catch up on contact tracing.
The chancellor warned that further tightening could still follow, that this would not be the “end of the flagpole,” which was announced Friday.
Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (VP) refers to Vienna again: “I am very grateful that the Vienna city government has also rethought” – what is needed in Vienna and in Germany are “tests and results of rapid tests “and that” Follow-up of quarantine measures “. He is also grateful to the Hungarian Interior Minister, because the restrictions for travelers will no longer apply with immediate effect.
