The state of Lower Austria spoke out on the current rise in corona infections – a buildup can be seen around Vienna, returning travelers and schoolchildren are additional factors for the rise in numbers.

In the state of Lower Austria, the increase in confirmed coronavirus infections by 95 (instead of 94, allocation correction, note) within 24 hours is attributed to three factors.

Königsberger-Ludwig explains three factors for Covid-19 infections

There are accumulations in the districts around Vienna, there are also returning travelers and now also school children, a spokesman for Health Councilor Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig (SPÖ) said on Thursday at the request of the APA.

With regard to the latter, according to the country’s medical staff, further clarification is being made. Infected returnees did not return home mainly from certain destinations, but “largely” from different countries. The virus is transmitted to the private sector, where small groups form.

Appeal to public transport users: comply with the mask requirement

A few days after the start of the school year, mobility councilor Ludwig Schleritzko and education councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister (both ÖVP) appealed to all public transport users in Lower Austria.

“Regardless of whether you are a traveler or a school student: compliance with the mask requirement is crucial for public health. The journey to school by bus and train is especially safe if everyone adheres to the applicable rules.” The reason for the call was that parents occasionally reported a lack of compliance in the last few days.

Corona traffic light – Lower Austria will accept the decision

Lower Austria will accept the decision of the Crown Commission, even if on Friday (tomorrow) the traffic light of a city or region of the state will turn yellow. Gov. Johanna Mikl-Leitner’s (ÖVP) office let Thursday pass. In terms of content, reference was made to a statement from the country manager earlier in the week.

At that point, Mikl-Leitner responded to Wiener Neustadt’s green light classification. “At first glance, it is actually not understandable why the committee of experts did not yellow Wiener Neustadt,” said the ÖVP politician in a written statement. However, the Crown Commission of the Ministry of Health is apparently taking a closer look and, in addition to current new infections, includes the clearance rate and long-term development.

The yellow classification of Wiener Neustadt mentioned by Mikl-Leitner could be imminent on Friday. It was rumored in the media several times or put in the room.
