Austria’s soccer series champion Red Bull Salzburg has not been spared from the crown crisis. The main effects are economic: after a viewer revenue of around 10 million euros in the preseason, this year it will be estimated at more than half, says managing director Stefan Reiter on Wednesday. Salzburg has already spent € 200,000 on crown tests.
A lot will change in the fall when it comes to visiting Red Bull Arena. In national competitions, fans are initially placed in a checkerboard pattern in their assigned seats. Tickets are only available to 9,500 season ticket holders, daily tickets will not be available until further notice.
A maximum of 300 spectators per block, 40 tickets to the stadium, a mouth and nose protection during movement and the opening of all restrooms and kiosks should ensure a safe process in the stadium. If the Corona traffic light in Salzburg changes color, the processes would change. Internationally, viewers are not allowed at the moment, which is why Reiter even calculates no revenue here.
Red Bull Arena will be a non-smoking stadium in the future

The truth is that the house of the “policemen” is now a non-smoking stadium. “The Red Bull Arena is a family-friendly stadium, it has a great area for children and youth and, as a sports facility, it should be a general example of increased health and environmental awareness,” says Reiter. The club follows the example of the Tivoli Stadium Tirol, where since spring the production of blue mist is only allowed in specially equipped smoking areas. Internationally, smoke-free stadiums are on the rise.
In sporting terms, on the other hand, almost everything stayed the same in the summer, quite unusual compared to previous years. Except for striker Hwang Hee-chan, who joined RB Leipzig, all the best players could stay. For sports director Christoph Freund, the whereabouts of Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai is an important sign. “He has matured a lot in recent months and now has a good reputation in the team,” Freund said of the midfielder, for whom there have been “some inquiries.”
Due to the corona virus, the transfer time has been extended this year. Therefore, it is not entirely clear whether the team will stay together. “We suppose, but what is true in football,” asked the sports director, who assures that the transfer market has calmed down.
The goals at the national level are the eighth consecutive championship title and entry to the ÖFB Cup final. There he is for the Bulls on Wednesday night at the start in Bregenz to continue a proud series: since 2014 they have only lost one game, the 2018 Cup final against Sturm Graz in overtime. Internationally, a short-term return to the Champions League is the clear objective. In addition, “a fresh football with many goals” will be played with the intensity shown after Corona’s break.
