The number of new infections every day is increasing rapidly throughout Austria, especially in Vienna. Will the corona traffic light be orange from Friday?
For the second day in a row, more than 500 new infections were recorded across the country, more than half of them (258) coming from Vienna. “For me personally, these figures are too high at the moment,” said Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) after the Council of Ministers. It should be added, however, that a large number of tests have been evaluated in the last 24 hours. Vienna and Tyrol are currently particularly affected.
But as the ORF also reports, “in accordance with the current state of knowledge,” Anschober does not assume that the corona traffic light will turn orange later this week in one of the affected cities. “I have no indication that things are going in this direction at the moment, but the decision will be made by the Commission,” the minister was quoted as saying. The expert advisory council will be heard tonight, and tomorrow Thursday, the 19-person traffic light commission will meet again.
Platter expects a yellow for Innsbruck
Meanwhile, Tyrolean Governor Günther Platter (ÖVP) assumes that the crown traffic light in his provincial capital will be yellow from Friday. Until now, Innsbruck was still classified as green. The associated measures will be implemented on a voluntary basis despite the lack of regulation to date. The development gives “cause for concern”, said the country manager: “We want to have a good fall and winter, so that the winter season works.”
“We have to look at each other more,” added LH deputy Ingrid Felipe (Verdes) according to an ORF report. There is also support from the mayor of Innsbruck, Georg Willi (Greens): “I would prefer that we now go through a yellow phase, so that people are reminded once again that the virus cannot be played with and then they can come back in more fast approaching the green phase “.
