It probably won’t be long before the first coronavirus vaccine is available on the European market. One of the most promising candidates is currently the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The cost per vaccine should be 2.50 euros, a small sum compared to the fact that a tick vaccine costs more than 30 euros. “Our goal is to make the vaccine available to everyone,” says CEO Pacal Soriot. The company hopes to produce a vaccine before the end of the year. “Maybe a little earlier, if all goes well,” Soriot added.
Low threshold access
As the Kronenzeitung informs, according to the Ministry of Health, the vaccine should be free for the population. But this is not the case, as spokeswoman Margit Draxl explains to KURIER: “Of course we want low-threshold access to the vaccine, because in this way we can achieve our goal of vaccination coverage of 50 to 60 percent. But if the vaccine will be really free or not. ” not clear yet. “
This is partly due to how expensive the vaccine will be in the end. “That is currently clearing up and we have to wait,” Draxl said.
An EU treaty guarantees Austria around six million doses of vaccination. The substance proved to be well tolerated by the test subjects in the first two series of tests and ensured the formation of antibodies and immunization against the Covid-19 lung disease.
The results of a third phase of testing are expected in the fall. If successful, the substance can be mass produced and administered.
