The federal government and representatives of social organizations discussed the issue of loneliness in old age in a round table that lasted several hours on Monday. After that, the Foreign Ministry announced short-term measures for the time of the pandemic and the long-term “pact” against loneliness in old age, already advised by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (VP).

Caritas President Michael Landau spoke in favor of the appointment of a government representative and a broad alliance of federal, state, municipal governments, churches and religious communities, business and civil society. “We have to isolate the virus and not the people,” Landau said.
Diakonie Principal Maria Katharina Moser considers that an “important teaching experience of the crown crisis” is that the subject should be viewed holistically and broadly: “In the first phase of the crown crisis, attention is focused on focused on virological and infectious approaches. But health also has a psychological, social and spiritual dimension. “
The director of Volkshilfe, Erich Fenninger, called for measures against the “collapse of family care.” A uniform increase across Austria in billable hours for mobile care and support, as well as free training for family caregivers, is needed. Fenninger also emphasized that there have been sharp price fluctuations for protective clothing and hygiene products in recent months.
