In Salzburg there is a new group around a holiday camp for the group of young Catholics. In Vienna, the death toll had to be revised upwards.
The number of new corona virus infections recorded in Austria was 290 in the past 24 hours, as reported by the Interior Ministry and the Health Ministry on Monday. In contrast, 257 people were reported to have recovered. 75 of the new cases were reported in Vienna, 56 in Lower Austria.
As of 9:30 am today, 746 people in Austria have died as a result of the corona virus. The increase of ten compared to Sunday is due to a data cleaning of Viennese cases since the end of March and was carried out on the basis of a recommendation from the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES): Therefore , deaths in the Covid-19 statistics should also be included in having tested positive for infection a time before death.
There are currently 163 people in hospital treatment for the coronavirus -20 more than on Sunday- 29 of the patients in intensive care units, which means that another person has been added in the last 24 hours.
The new infections are divided into the remaining seven federal states as follows: 33 in Upper Austria, 32 in Styria, 31 in Tyrol. Salzburg reported 25 new infections, 23 Vorarlberg, eleven Burgenland – Carinthia recorded four.
Youth groups
There is a surprising new group only in Salzburg, as it became known on Saturday. A holiday camp of the Catholic youth group was affected there the previous week in Grossarl in the Pongau region of Salzburg. There are currently eleven infections assigned to the group, two camp caregivers and nine children and adolescents around the age of 14 have tested positive, according to the Archdiocese of Salzburg.
Contact tracing was in full swing over the weekend. Two infected adults and five children and adolescents live in the city of Salzburg. Another 16 people in the area have already been separated by decision to contain the infection process as quickly as possible, the city said. Four other infected children and teenagers live in Salzburg’s Tennengau, an archdiocese spokesman said. The other administrative authorities of the district also collect contact persons. According to the city of Salzburg, the index person in the group comes from neighboring Bavaria.
Finished early
“There were strict protection requirements at the youth camp,” emphasized archdiocese spokesman Kurt Sonneck. “It was ventilated regularly, it was disinfected, masks were worn and hands were washed.” After the first infection at the camp this week, the vacation week ended immediately. All children and adolescents and their companions were immediately tested for Covid. Participants in the vacation camp were staying in separate accommodations and had no contact with anyone else, Sonneck said. In the camp there were a total of 22 children and youth and nine caregivers.
Cluster formation and clustering is one of the four criteria of the Corona traffic light. “We expect a significant increase in positive test results in the coming days, especially in the family environment,” said Michael Haybäck from the Salzburg district administration.
