With the Corona traffic light, there are now binding rules, based on color. The government wants to give an overview every week.

“It will be a sports autumn,” said Vice Chancellor and Sports Minister Kogler. One of the most important characteristics of the traffic light is that several indicators will play a role. The advantage is: “You can react locally and regionally.”
With the traffic light, a competition between the countries has now been declared: There are different speeds for testing and contact tracing. You can see with the stoplight that those who are not that advanced can catch up.
“Anything that is successful here saves us a great deal of money macroeconomically,” Kogler said. “Then let’s get started.”

Health Minister Anschober emphasized again that there is a higher risk of infection in autumn: it is colder, life is moving further inland. They were “quite challenging months.”
In Austria, most infections are currently due to small regional groups; they are still mainly the ones who return home.
The traffic light is now a measure that should help in this difficult situation and allow decisions based on facts.

A commission of 19 people will assess the situation. The government has five members, five are experts, plus one representative from each federal state. The president is Daniela Schmid from AGES.
“Green is not a carte blanche”
The Health Minister said about the colors: “Green is not a white card. Even with green we have to be careful and careful.”
Yellow means medium risk, but don’t panic. He emphasizes: cities generally have a harder time in the pandemic.
Some green regions “flash yellow,” he said. The traffic light is not static, the color can change at any time, including measurements.
In the case of yellow, there is initially an expansion of the mask requirement. In schools, masks should be worn when entering and leaving, but not in the classroom during lessons.
By the way, the traffic light begins without a legal basis: the amendment to the Law of Epidemic Measures and Covid-19 was strongly criticized in the evaluation phase and now needs to be reviewed. It could only be decided in the National Council at the end of September.
When the law goes into effect, the federal government will have the power to issue ordinances, which states and regions can then refine.
