Public and private initiators want to contribute 260 million euros for modernization.
Vienna An alliance of public and private initiators would like to further establish Vienna as a place of international health. For this, investments of 260 million euros are planned in the coming years. Participants include the City of Vienna, the Chamber of Commerce and Doctors, the Health Insurance Fund, the Federation of Industries and the Praevenire Association.
Hans Jörg Schelling, President of Praevenire and former Finance Minister: “We should develop as a Vienna 2.0 Medical School”. He hopes there will be another Vienna Nobel Prize in a few years. More than a quarter of the total value added in Vienna goes back to the healthcare sector, said Vienna lawyer Alexander Biach. He named four core themes to strengthen the city’s superior position: research, a new push for digitization and growth, and an expansion of the international medical location. This last area also includes the creation of a medical device approval office in the city. That has already been started.
Councilor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke (SPÖ) was proud of the history of Viennese medicine, he wants the city to continue to play a leading role in the future. It is important “to consider how we can further expand the health metropolis Vienna.” One project concerns the Hanusch Hospital with a 10,000 square meter pavilion. Among other things, an operating room complex will be created throughout the building in which robot-assisted surgical systems will be used. (red./APA)
