Government gives Corona recommendations for autumn and winter: “The virus embraces you”

In the first Cabinet after the summer holidays, the turquoise-green government took stock of the development of Corona in the summer and made an outlook for the fall.

Chancellor Sebastian Kurz declared, as in his speech last Friday, that there is “light at the end of the tunnel”, but we are not at the end. And again he promised that the summer of 2021 could be “normal” again.

Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler shares this optimism, as he emphasized. The summer was much better than expected, but in the fall and winter more attention and common sense are needed again. “When we snuggle in the fall and winter, the virus snuggles up with us, “Kogler said.

The government’s creed remains: “as much freedom as possible, as little restriction as necessary.”

In fact, new crown measures were announced for today. Now the government is only making recommendations:

  • That will be especially the Austrian cultural scene looking forward. Because after the success of the Salzburg Festival, where not a single infection was recorded, the relaxed crown regulations for the cultural sector and sporting events remain in Austria.
  • by private parties and meetings There is a recommendation from the federal government to limit the number of guests to a maximum of 25. But the best, would be the recommendation, would be to completely give up private parties. If the number of infections increases enormously in winter, this requirement, which must now be voluntarily fulfilled, could quickly become the rule.
  • At Mask requirement The population will be advised to use them indoors. Wearing the mask and keeping a minimum distance was the main message of the federal government.

Health Minister Rudolf Anschober also came to speak about the festival: it was “great” that the festival could take place despite Corona thanks to a well thought-out security concept.

He showed the current infection curve on an A3 sheet of paper: There has been an increase in the past. “The good thing” about the charts, according to Anschober, is that the red line has remained flat. That’s the line that shows the number of patients in intensive care units.

The focus on new infections was due to private parties. Hence the recommendation not to have private parties.

Why is fall so difficult? First: it’s colder, Anschober said. Life returns inside. “And when we are indoors, it means a higher risk of infection.” Second, colds and flu are rampant again during this time. Through hygiene, keeping your distance, and wearing a mask, the overall risk of infection is minimized, not just with Corona.
