The phone sickness notification should expire on August 31. However, in the case of Covid symptoms, this should be possible.
The Austrian health fund announced it in a broadcast. Previously, criticism came from various sides. The fact that everyone has to go to the doctor’s office at the beginning of the fall months, and therefore the cold and flu season, was met with a lack of understanding. After all, a crowded doctor’s office and waiting room are the perfect prerequisites for a new group.
For this reason, the ÖGK decided at the last second to continue to keep open the option of taking leave by phone in the event of the symptoms indicated by Corona. This is to better protect physicians and prevent infections as much as possible.
Is that how it works
Anyone who is considered a suspected case should continue to contact 1450. If a test is ordered there, in most federal states there is still an “official segregation.” In any case, those affected can call an ordinance until a test result is available and, after telemedicine clarification, receive a note of illness by phone. The only requirement is that the person also has symptoms.
If the test result is negative, the sick leave expires in five business days. However, if the interested party is still ill, a doctor must be personally consulted to issue the sick note. With this procedure, the ÖGK wants to ensure that patients with symptoms of Covid-19 receive a sick note in the least bureaucratic and risk-free way possible and do not have to go to an ordination.
