The young Belgian star Remeco Evenepoel, who fell seriously at the start of Lombardy, has to face doping accusations that began to roll because of the accident.
A video of the accident shows how Davide Bramati, the young man’s sports director, takes a white object out of the pocket of the seriously injured professional cyclist’s jersey and puts it in his pocket.
Evenepoel’s racing team, Deceuninck-Quick Step, dismissed any suspicions on Saturday: “As already mentioned publicly, the item that was taken out of the Remco bag was a small bottle of nutritional supplements.” The pockets had been emptied so that Evenepoel could lie more comfortably on the gurney. The team also reported this to CADF.
Evenepoel fell down a slope a good two weeks ago during the race and suffered a broken pelvis.
