TIROLER TAGESZEITUNG, May 13, 2020 editorial by Manfred Mitterwachauer – “State parliament ruined it”

Innsbruck (OTS) Ischgl’s commission of inquiry is discredited even before he was in office and with dignity. I missed the chance, you can only tell the Landtag. And we expect an investigative committee from the National Council.

The Tyrolean state parliament has collapsed. Just a few weeks ago, in a special state parliament of the Crown, in flowery and unctuous speeches, the need to “stay together” and join forces between the parties was called in times of an unprecedented crisis. Nothing was felt at yesterday’s state parliament session. Instead, a commission of inquiry for the Ischgl Crown archive (and beyond), which was vigorously demanded at home and abroad, was sacrificed on the altar of political vanities. In all parts. The damage must be irreparable.
Tirol needs a new way. A permanent phrase that we already know in many areas, but that now celebrates happy primitive times, especially in tourism. Far from mass tourism, far from partying tourists, far from everything that makes us think of the super virus propagator.
Ischgl remembers. And of the mistakes that were made there. And elsewhere. In the country house? In the crisis team? In the Landeck district administration? All these errors must be identified and eliminated. Will heads roll later? The black and green state government consolidated Tilg’s yesterday, at least until further notice. However, this does not automatically mean that Tilg is also allowed to celebrate the upcoming New Year as the State Health Council. And yet: the culture of resignation and political responsibility could be exemplified in modern democracies without independent experience. But let’s get back to commission. This goes to bed before he is born. Rather than learning from the mistakes of the Genesis of the Country Refugee Society (TSD) Research Committee, parliamentary factions continue to drift down the same old paths. And release the commission for the political demolition of the party. What national and international expert, in all seriousness, will still be willing to work on a commission that is already in political crossfire even before it has requested a single official act? Even before you can use specialized knowledge to show one or another responsible person the insufficiency? The Tyrolean Corona Commission is, unfortunately, a dead moment. It would be more honest to remove it immediately. The National Council should better initiate an investigative committee to compensate. The state parliament certainly missed its chance.
