Current crown numbers: The replay number is back over 1.0 in Germany! – adviser

Was the great fear of increasing R-value exaggerated? Until now it has always been said that for the pandemic to decrease, the number would have to be below the 1 mark in the long term.

Because, after recent positive trends and a drop in the infection rate to 0.65, the current value according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is 1.07, it is higher than 1.0 for the third consecutive day. That means: on average, each infected person causes more than just a new infection.

RKI makes everything clear for the value R

On Tuesday morning, the RKI gave the go-ahead: the value is not currently showing a further increase, but a stagnation in the number of corona infections in Germany. Furthermore, according to RKI vice professor Lars Schaade, the reproductive factor “R” in the spread of the coronavirus is not the only decisive factor in evaluating the current situation. The number of new infections in a daily comparison, the number of tests that were positive, and the workload of the health system were also important.

Important: the R value is one in a statistical procedure extrapolated estimate the infection from about a week and a half ago. The delay is due to the fact that it takes four to six days for the infection to appear at first symptoms, then another four, until the test result is available and reported to the RKI. The RKI has described exactly how the procedure for calculating R works on its website.

In its interactive description, the RKI updates the epidemic figures daily. According to RKI figures on Tuesday morning, the total number of reported cases is currently 170,508. That’s 933 more than a day ago. The number of deaths increased from 116 to 7,533 and the number recovered increased from 1,600 to 147,200.

Federal state health authorities update their statistics multiple times a day, which means their infection and death case numbers are slightly different than RKI’s (see chart above).

As for other countries, experts also expect a large number of unreported cases in Germany.

Regional roofs

Last Wednesday, the federal and state governments agreed to relax, as long as the upper limit for new infections was not exceeded. Under the resolution, federal states must ensure that restrictions in independent counties or cities with more than 50 new infections per 100,000 residents are immediately restored within seven days. In the case of a clearly defined and localized infection event, for example in an installation, this concept of restriction can only affect this installation.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, the treatment capabilities for coronavirus patients in Germany are still sufficient.

How widespread is Corona worldwide?

World crown case numbers are determined by the Johns Hopkins American Private University in Baltimore, USA. If you compare the German numbers from Johns Hopkins University with those of the RKI, then the RKI appears to be lagging behind in registering new crown cases. Reason: Both institutions determine the number of cases in different ways.

Men get sick more often

Men are more likely to develop coronaviruses and also die more often as a result of the infection.
A European study now claims to have found an explanation. The results, published in the European Heart Journal, showed that men’s blood has a higher level of a key enzyme called ACE2 than women’s.

According to the report, the coronavirus requires ACE2 to penetrate cells, multiply, and pass into the lungs. Based on the series of tests, medications prescribed as ACE inhibitors or blockers for heart failure, diabetes, or kidney disease would not lead to higher concentrations of ACE2.

Therefore, patients who depend on adequate medication would not have an increased risk of COVID-19 disease.

This is how the RKI works

The Robert Koch Institute, as an independent federal authority, currently determines all of our lives with its numbers, studies, and the knowledge gained from it.

People with 90 different professions from 50 nations work there. Of the 1,296 employees, 1,224 are based in Berlin and 72 at the Wernigerode branch. The 24/7 Berlin location center only has 150 employees.

“In the current situation, most of all staff are concerned about fighting the Covid 19 virus,” said RKI spokeswoman Susanne Glasmacher.
