German league maintains restart despite Dresden quarantine

The German Football League maintains the restart of the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga in one week after quarantine for the entire SG Dynamo Dresden team. “We are not currently changing the goal, just the plans,” DFL managing director Christian Seifert said Saturday at ZDF’s “current sports studio”. The goal is to end the season.

Dynamo’s quarantine is currently no reason to question the continuation of the second division. In the afternoon, he learned that the Saxon club had examined two other professionals for the coronavirus in the third series of tests. The first series of tests had been positive. The responsible health authority in Dresden ordered a 14-day quarantine at home. This means that the bottom team Dynamo Dresden cannot compete against Hannover 96 as a visitor on May 17, nor host SpVgg Greuther Fürth at their home stadium the following weekend.

Austrian Sascha Horvath’s club did not mention the names of the affected players with reference to privacy. “The fact is, we can’t train or participate in the game in the next 14 days,” said Dynamo sports manager Ralf Minge.

The concept of resuming play, which should take place in a week, only provided a quarantine for the player who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. Seifert stated at ZDF that it had always been emphasized that local health authorities would make the decisions.

It was also hypothetical to talk about what would happen if it also happened in other cities or with other teams. He doesn’t interpret that as a setback either. “It was perfectly clear that this could happen,” said Seifert.
