The new start of school on May 18 brings new rules. A maximum of 18 students can be present per class, there is no gymnastics and singing is also avoided in music classes. Upper secondary schools can also teach in the afternoon and on Saturday.

When classifying shift work from May 18, there is a maximum limit of 18 students per group. All major classes must be divided, the Ministry of Education said in a decree. As announced, gymnastics is basically canceled, music can still be performed, but without singing. Sitting in primary schools should be possible in exceptional cases.

As a general rule, all classes should be divided into two groups of the same size: “unless the maximum total number of students from 15 to 18 in a class is not exceeded and existing hygiene standards can be observed” (ie the distance of one meter between the tables). The Ministry recommends that schools use the “three plus two days” model: three days of instruction for one group and two days for the other, and vice versa the following week. Other models for school autonomy are also possible, however, “in coordination between school supervision and school management.”

Brothers not on different layers

If a different division has been chosen at the site, out of consideration for working parents, it must be ensured that siblings do not have different intervals when they go to school. If children go to two different schools, the educational directorates should “ensure that the models for group formation practiced in the individual schools are coordinated so that there are no organizational difficulties for parents and legal guardians.” If this is the case, “after consultation with parents and legal guardians, appropriate solutions can be found for interested students.”

In principle, the above schedule should be kept in schools. However, as previously announced, there is no gymnastics lesson: There are special rules only for special forms, such as competitive sports schools or schools with a focus on sports. Music, on the other hand, can basically take place, however singing is not allowed. There are also special rules for schools with a focus on music. In all other subjects, such as religion, singing or dancing should be avoided.

High school classes are also allowed on Saturdays.

Classes at the elementary schools generally end at 12 p.m. and at lower AHS levels or new high schools at 2 p.m., however, the hours that have already started at this point may end. By contrast, upper secondary schools can also teach in the afternoon; if the school community committee decides, they can also teach on Saturday.

All-day tangled school will be suspended for this class. At the end of the morning part, only attention will be offered. Afternoon care continues in schools open all day.

In contrast to the latest announcement, pupils in elementary schools can theoretically fail: as in all other types of schools, it should now be applied that they advance automatically with insufficient numbers, the teachers conference decides on several five students.

There is no school work in primary schools.

School work is no longer carried out. Other selective performance evaluations, such as testing, should only be carried out in exceptional cases. Students who want to get a better grade can take the so-called “desire test”. In addition, the principle that recent work will be rated higher will be suspended this year. That means, for example, that home school achievements are worth as much as the last few weeks of school.

The tests for students in German classes are not suspended. These decide if a child can switch to regular class. However, the trial period extends until the last day of school.

On the contrary, there is a special regulation for the advancement of German support courses to the next school level: if the result is “sufficient” or “poor”, the teachers’ conference decides whether a positive evaluation is already possible considering the difficulties of language in all subjects.
