Aters 55% recommend that they should be forbidden

The pick-up line is officially dead – or at least people believe it should be.

A study of 1,000 Americans who have lived on a single date found that 55 per cent of them think one-liners should be banned – 18 per cent more than women, disqualifying men.

The most deftly worthy lines on which respondents rolled their eyes were ‘I’ve got my library card and I’m checking you out’ followed by 45 45 percent of the vote ‘Are you from Tennessee? At 39 percent you will only see 10.

But despite their enthusiasm, a third of respondents confessed that the pick-up line was indeed working on them.

Twenty-two percent of men have dropped for the liner alone, while only 27 percent of women can say so.

The winning lines to actually work were: ‘Are you a Pokemon? Because I like to take Pikachu ‘and’ Can I keep a picture of you so I can show Santa what I want for Christmas? ‘

The survey, conducted by OnePole on behalf of HUD, found that of the 52 percent of people who use a dating app, one in two used a one-liner in a direct message to get someone’s attention.

And Crazy pick-up lines aren’t just tactful responders agreed to be used in search of a partner.

About two-thirds (per 64 per cent) admitted that it took a long time to respond to a message in an attempt to ‘run it smoothly’.

The average respondent said they would take minutes to respond to a message and if they thought their potential partner had taken too long to respond, per cent of people would be late in replying.

Naturally, these romantic games are a source of frustration, as per 78% of people think that delaying ‘games’ and feedback is a waste of time and wish people would be themselves.

Aside from games and restrictions, there are some things that respondents can’t learn on direct messaging.

Four out of five need to hear someone’s voice before they agree to meet – and the average person on a dating app needs four days of communication before they can agree to a call with a potential partner.

Other major requirements that could not be selected from any text that defendants wanted to know before meeting in person were friendly behavior, voice progress, hygiene, and chemistry.

‘Casual dating historically suffers from a lack of honesty and transparency, so it’s no surprise that people are a little wary about calling or meeting that person before they feel comfortable in a potential match,’ said Katie Wilson, communications for HUD.

‘It’s a good idea to take the time to get to know someone before you take the next step of calling gender, video calling gender or meeting. Respect your own boundaries – and if your match presses you, let them go, because they need to respect your boundaries too. ‘
