Ardern called the claim “patent wrong” when he addressed reporters, claiming that the two countries were not similar in their handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I do not think there is a comparison between the current cluster of New Zealand and the tens of thousands of cases that are seen every day in the United States,” the prime minister said. “Obviously each country is experiencing its own battle with COVID-19. It is a troublesome virus, but not one where I would compare the current status of New Zealand with the United States.”

“We are still one of the best performing countries in the world when it comes to COVID,” Ardern added. “Our workers are focused on keeping it that way.”

“The places they used to keep, they have a big turnout. And I do not want that, I do not want that. But they kept up names of countries, and now they say, ‘Whoops!’ “the president said Monday.

“Even as New Zealand, what’s going on in New Zealand?” he added. “They beat it, they beat it, it was like front page, ‘They beat it’, because they want to see me something. The problem is – big current in New Zealand. You know, it’s awful.”
