First spot On Twitter And then confirmed by MCumers, page 71 of Apple’s settlement with Qualcomm (following the pair’s long-running legal battle) announces Apple’s 5G plans for the next four years. Moreover, it specifically confirms that Apple will use Qualcomm’s radically upgraded X60 5G modem in the 2021 “Apple Pull Products” (read: iPhone) and this fixes the iPhone 12 range’s flaws.

IPhone 12M models use Dello Qualcomm’s X55 5G modem (this is also detailed in the settlement filing and is confirmed in the iPhone 12 Tear today) And this hardware has not only a great price premium but also a high power drain and limited international support. This forced Apple to make several compromises with significant results.

The first was to cut costs. The most high-profile is Apple’s decision to remove earpods and wall chargers from the iPhone 12BX, but the most notable company has also taken steps to save costs by installing smaller batteries in this range. The subsequent decision, coupled with the X55’s high power draw, means that tests have confirmed that they give their predecessor a shorter battery life. This also explains the absence of a 120 Hz promotion display. Apple Paul also does not support the fastest 5G standard (‘MMM Wave’) on any iPhone 12 model outside the US and multi-SIM 5G is not available.

But the X60 changes everything. Unlike the X55, it can be integrated into the phone’s main chipset which saves space, reduces battery drain and reduces costs. It is compatible with 5G networks globally, supports dual SIM and integrates MMwave and Sub-6GHz (slow, long range) 5G networks to deliver eye-watering operations.

All of this explains why the first iPhone 13 leaks read everything we didn’t get from the iPhone 12 line-up like everyone’s wish list. In addition, the iPhone 13 range will be the first model to feature a small tall and in-display Touch ID (along with a Face ID), adding the kind of mask-wearing relief needed by the world.

So yes, iPhone 12 models offer full solid upgrade options but one, they are undoubtedly influenced by the compromise due to the X55 modem. Next year, thanks to Apple Pal’s own documentation, we know gloves are off.
