Apple’s ‘iPhone 12’ rumored and new iPads to debut in October, iPhone 5G may be delayed

Prolific leaker Jon Prosser said in a short tweet Wednesday that Apple’s upcoming lineup of “iPhone 12” and a list of new iPads will debut in October, a timeline apparently backed by statements by Qualcomm chief financial officer Akash Palkhiwala.

Prosser’s tweet, which says: “iPhone 12 […] New iPads […] October, “suggests that Apple is planning to announce or launch a list of next-generation phones and tablets a month later than its typical September launch window. While new iPhones are expected this fall, Apple is also rumored to be preparing a 10.8-inch iPad Air screen and new iPad mini models for sale.

Palkhiwala revealed a similar timeline in an interview with Reuters. On Wednesday, the executive hinted at a possible October launch for a 5G-capable iPhone.

Commenting on the chipmaker’s recently completed fiscal third quarter, Palkhiwala said Qualcomm anticipates lower revenue in the coming quarter due to the delay of a “flagship phone launch.” Analysts believe the phone is iPhone.

“We are seeing a partial impact of the delay in launching a flagship phone,” Palkhiwala said. “And so what we’ve seen is a slight lag that pushes some of the units from the September quarter to the December quarter.”

Qualcomm will supply baseband chipsets for iPhone 5G as part of a modem license agreement and deal that ended a worldwide legal battle with Apple. Devices with Qualcomm technology will be the first foray of the Cupertino technology giant into the 5G arena.

Today’s rumors follow predictions from the “iHacktu Pro” filter, which last week claimed that Apple plans to hold its annual iPhone event in September. Along with new iPhone models and “Apple Watch Series 6”, the event is rumored to bring news of an updated iPad and a resurrected AirPower wireless charging device. The filter also predicted that Apple will hold another meeting in October to announce its first Apple Silicon Mac, a refurbished iPad Pro, and “Apple Glass.”
