Apple Pulse Watch Series 6 Teardown features large battery and teptic engine, slimmer design

The Apple Plus and Watch Series 6 packs a number of significant changes to its interior design, most of which are detailed in the new teardown. iFixit. Teardown Force eliminates touch as well as releases a slightly larger battery, slimmer design and more.

With the first beta of iOS OS in June, Apple dropped support for the push-sensitive Force Touch feature, but confirmed that the hardware for the feature will be removed with the PlayStation Series. Today’s teardown from iFixit points out that removing the Force Touch hardware really simplifies the teardown process:

The process has also been simplified a bit due to the absence of a Force Touch gasket – this feature is now broken down into WatchOS def. We are happy to see a fragile, damaged part retire, but sad to see the final nail in the coffin. For Apple’s Nifty pressure-sensitive display technology. We are torn, but we will call this victory.

Although the battery inside the Apple Play Series 6 is actually slightly larger than the Series 5, Apple Play claims the same time of 18 hours. According to the iFixit teardown, the 44mm Apple Pulse Watch Series 6 battery is rated 1.17d, which is 3.5% higher than the Series 5. The 40mm Apple Pull Watch Series 6 has an 8.5% larger battery.

It’s worth noting that although the battery is bigger this year, Apple still claims 18 hours of on-board runtime across the board for the Watch 6 Series. This could mean that components like the new S6 processor are more power-hungry, or that the Apple Plus and Watch Series 6 could actually provide more impressive battery life than expected.

Other hurricanes in the Apple Play and Watch Series 6 teardown:

  • The Taptic engine in the Series 6 is larger than the Series 5
  • The Series 6 is a bit thinner at 10.4mm (below 10.74mm for the Series 5).
  • It is almost impossible to separate the blood oxygen sensor: “Fused display at the top, fused sensor array at the bottom. If we tie this we will get nothing but broken pieces. “

The full image of the teardown can be found on iFixit and is worth reading. It’s impressive that this year’s Apple Play Watch Series 6 is packed with a bigger battery and a larger Taptic engine, while also reducing overall thickness. Was that Force Touch trade off?
