Apple posts 225% growth in iPhone sales in Q2 in China, remains fastest-growing smartphone maker – report

What happened

The Cupertino-based company saw sales of 7.4 million units for iPhones in the crucial Asian market in the quarter ended June, up 32% year-on-year.

Figures from Shanghai-based CINNO Research separately indicate that iPhone sales increased 62% yoy to 13 million units in the second quarter. This is a 225% increase over the previous quarter, according to CINNO.

The incredible increase in sales can be attributed, at least in part, to the sudden drop in sales in the first quarter of this year in China due to the new coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Apple also managed to increase its market share in the first quarter, even as the overall market fell.

Rival Huawei recorded sales volumes of 36.6 million devices, an increase of 14% year-on-year, maintaining its dominance in the country’s market.

Because it is important

The recent success of the iPhone maker on the continent was also visible in services, as the App Store raised $ 4.4 billion in gross revenue in the quarter, although this figure marks a 4% decrease from revenue of $ 4.6 billion generated in the first quarter, but is up 13% year-on-year, according to Sensor Tower, CNBC said.

Analysts expect the next version of the iPhone, the iPhone 12, to be compatible with next-generation 5G network technology with Daniel Ives of Wedbush Securities, which estimates that 60-70 million iPhones in China will be in the update window during next year.

Apple will release its official third-quarter earnings on Thursday.
