Apple is taking legal action against meal planning services with a pear-shaped logo

Apple is apparently taking legal action against a company called Prepear, which is an app and service that makes it easier for people to plan meals and find new recipes. Apple’s legal complaint? The paired logo used by Prepear, shown above, is too similar to the Apple logo.

According to the founders of Prepear, this is a spin-off of the Super healthy kids service, Apple is against the trading application for Prepear and demands that the company change the pair-shaped logo. As iPhone in Canada first reported:

According to the founders, Apple “against the trading application for our small business, Prepear, required us to change our apparently pear-shaped logo, used to represent our brand in the recipe management and meal planning business.”

The founders of Prepear still claim that they are a very small company with only five staff members. The legal battle with Apple has already cost “many thousands of dollars” and they have been forced to lay off one team member because of the added burden of legal costs. However, Prepear says they feel a “moral obligation” to take action against “Apple’s aggressive legal action.”

Prepear also points out that Apple “has opposed dozens of other branded applications submitted by small businesses with fruit-related logos” and that many of these logos have been altered or abandoned. “Most small businesses can’t afford the tens of thousands of dollars it would cost to fight Apple,” says the founding Prepear.

“It’s a very horrible experience to be legally attacked by one of the largest companies in the world, even if we clearly did nothing wrong, and we understand why most companies just give up and change their logos.

Prepear says they feel a moral obligation to stand up to Apple’s aggressive legal action against small businesses and fight for the right to preserve our logo. We are defending ourselves against Apple not only to keep our logo, but to send a message to big tech companies that small business bullying has been affected. “

Prepear has launched a petition from Change.org to “end Apple’s aggressive opposition to companies with fruit logos.” To date, the petition has received more than 13,000 signatures. Prepear is a free app and can be downloaded for iOS and Android. You can find Apple’s note of opposition here (via MacRumors)
