The U1 chip was introduced by Apple in 2019 along with the iPhone 11, and since then, the company has only brought it to the Apple Plus and Series Ch series 6 and iPhone 12 lineup. Although some rumors suggested that Apple’s over-ear headphones would have a U1 chip, Apple today launched the AirPods Max without its ultra wideband chip.
Apple Pal only mentions that the AirPods Max, like other AirPods models, has an H1 chip in each ear cup for computational audio dio and other smart features. However, there is no mention of the U1 chip – the AirPods Max Tech specifications are not even on the webpage. MCummers Claims that it was able to confirm that the AirPods Max does not have the U1 chip for ultra wideband technology.
In September, Liquor Said John Procher The U1 chip is coming for many new Apple Plus devices, including Apple and Apple Ch Series 6, HomePod Mini and AirPods Max. While it was right about the Apple Plus and Watch Ch Series 6 and the Homepod Mini, the AirPods Max is not compatible with UWB.
For those unfamiliar with this technology, the U1 chip enables certain conditions with Ultra Wideband (UWB) radios. In other words, UWB-enabled devices can detect its exact position in the same room compared to other devices. Apple Paul currently uses the U1 chip with UWB to enable quick airdrop sharing with a nearby device and allow users to unlock their car without taking an iPhone out of their pocket.
In the HomePod Mini, the U1 chip is used for a quick handoff between the HomePod and the iPhone, so that users can switch playback content between the iPhone and the HomePod Mini with just one tap. Apple will be able to enable a similar feature on the AirPods Max if they have a U1 chip, as well as prepare for the new Find My system, which is rumored to adopt UWB tracking in the future.
Like Bloomberg As Mark Gurman suggested on Twitter, Apple Pal had more ambitious plans for the AirPods Max, but some features were canceled during development so that production could be ready by 2020 – and the U1 chip could be one of these features.
AirPods Max is now available to order in the United States and other countries, but shipping estimates are already 3 to 14 weeks depending on the model chosen. Over-ear headphones are priced at 54 9549 in the US.
