Falcon star Anthony Mackie has assessed the lack of diversity behind the scenes at Marvel Studios.
Chatting with SnowpiercerDaveed Diggs for VarietyActors in the Actors segment, Mackie was asked how he was “interacting” with the Black Lives Matter movement in his professional life.
“It really bothered me that I’ve made seven Marvel movies where every producer, every director, every specialist, every costume designer, every personal assistant, every person has been white,” he explained.

Mackie noted that only one MCU box office hit had employed a black producer: Nate Moore in the groundbreaking 2018 Oscar nominee. Black Panther.
“But when you do Black PantherYou have a black director, a black producer, a black costume designer, a black choreographer. And I say, that is more racist than anything else, “he said.
“Because if you can only hire blacks for the black movie, are you saying they aren’t good enough when you have a mostly white cast?”

On the changes he would like to see implemented, Mackie shared, “My big push with Marvel is to hire the best person for the job. Even if that means we’re going to get the best two women, we’re going to get the best two men. Well I’m fine with those numbers for the next 10 years.
“Because it’s starting to build a new generation of people who can put something on their resume to get other jobs. If we have to divide as a percentage, divide it. And that’s something as male leaders that we can go inside and push to.”
Earlier this month, Marvel released a statement pledging to “oppose racism.”
In a tweet, the company stated, “We are against racism. We are for inclusion. We are with our fellow black employees, storytellers, creators, and the entire black community. We must unite and speak.”
Its parent company, The Walt Disney Company, also announced that it had pledged $ 5 million to support nonprofits that promote social justice.
