Grounded, the new survival game about kids that shrinks to insects, is the latest title from Xbox Game Studios to hit Steam and rise to the top of the platform’s sales ranks.
Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, owned by Microsoft, Grounded It was released in Early Access for PC and Xbox One on July 28. Grounded it quickly reached the top of Steam’s top seller list, topping games like Destroy all humans! and turn-based strategy game, Othercide. It also joined other games from Microsoft Game Studios, Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Sea of thieves on the Steam list of the most purchased games.
While it is not exactly surprising that these games are popular, especially with so few recently released large PC games, it is somewhat surprising that they are so popular in Steam. All three games, including the new one GroundedThey are also available in Microsoft’s Game Pass for Xbox One and PC. This means that players on Steam are choosing to buy Grounded at its full price of $ 29.99 instead of spending $ 4.99 or $ 14.99 to get all three games, and many more, as part of the Game Pass subscription.
Microsoft cares more about the platform as a whole than forcing gamers to buy games only through Microsoft’s services and storefronts these days, and the strategy already seems to be paying off.
