Analogue’s gorgeous Pocket handheld delayed until 2021, but preorders will open soon

Last year, Analogue announced the Pocket, a sleek, modern handheld device designed to reproduce all of its old Game Boy cartridges. It was originally slated to launch this year, but due to the current state of the world, it is now expected to debut in May 2021. Analogue cites “the unfortunate global state of affairs and supply chain challenges beyond our control” as the reason for the delay. But there is good news. Analogue is starting preorders for the handheld very soon; They will open on August 3 at 8 am PT / 11 am ET.

The company also revealed some slight changes to the design of the handheld (the home, select, and home buttons have been moved to the bottom of the device) and its optional dock (Analogue says “the USB-C insertion point it has been recessed for greater stability “). Plus, there are a few new accessories, including a clear plastic hard case, fast charger, and cartridge adapters so you can play games from Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, and Atari Lynx.

If you’re wondering why all the fuss, Analogue has a solid history of making beautiful hardware explicitly designed to play old games in an accessible way. The above examples include Mega SG and Super Nt. The Pocket is the company’s first foray into handheld gaming, and it has some attractive features: a 3.5-inch, 665ppi LCD screen made of Gorilla Glass; a 4300 mAh battery with an estimated playing time of six hours; support for Game Boy, GBC and GBA games; and a built-in synthesizer.

The Analogue Pocket will launch for $ 199.99, while the optional dock, which allows you to play games on your TV, will be $ 99.
