This is the latest Prime Day ever held by Amazon, and the first to be held in the fourth quarter, including Black Friday and Cyber Monday, followed by two other industry-wide holiday deal events.
“We think this year’s Prime Day will be bigger than that,” said Jamil Gani, vice president of Amazon Prime. “It’s definitely been an unprecedented year and we’re preparing for what we do all year long. We think October 13th and 14th is the right time to start a successful and safe holiday season.”
The sales phenomenon has boosted Amazon’s sales. But, more importantly, Amazon uses the savings event to promote its own products and hook new members to its subscription program that 100 million people around the world consider an essential part of their shopping life. The majority of the company’s fur on Prime Day is exclusive to Prime members – a 120-year subscription that offers customers music, movies, TV shows and free shipping.
