Amazon buys an autonomous company led by a black CEO for $ 1.2 billion

Amazon is reportedly buying the autonomous company Zoox for $ 1.2 billion. The company made the announcement in a statement last Friday.

Zoox is a company that has been testing autonomous vehicles in Las Vegas and San Francisco, and has been referred to by many as a “robotaxi” service. While no immediate plans were revealed for the company, Amazon’s chief executive of consumer business Jeff Wilke praised Zoox’s drive “to imagine, invent and design a world-class autonomous transportation experience.”

It was noted that although Amazon is buying the company, African American CEO Aicha Evans will remain on board to lead the company along with co-founder and chief technology officer Jesse Levinson. Evans gave a statement on the new agreement, saying: “We now have an even greater opportunity to achieve a fully autonomous future.” Director of Security Innovation Mark Rosekind said: “We will start to see three to five years when people will start to deploy in cities, but it will be 20 to 30 years before I start seeing this everywhere.” .
