Alexei will remain in Naval’s prison after a Russian court reduced his sentence

The court shortened the activist’s sentence to two months after taking into account the time spent in custody from December 2014 to February 2015.

Navalny appealed the sentence in Moscow City Court on Saturday.

At the beginning of the proceedings, the anti-corruption activist asked the judge to allow video recording of the hearing.

The judge decided not to allow reporters to present the proceedings but said “the verdict will be registered.”

Navalny’s lawyer Olga Mikhailova then petitioned the court for the immediate release of her client, as demanded by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

Alexei Navalny, a Kremlin critic, has been sentenced to life in prison, sparking protests across Russia.

Mikhailova argued that Navalny’s life and health were in danger while in detention.

The court handed down the original sentence on February 2, ruling that while Naval was in Germany, he violated probation conditions from a 2014 case in which he received a three-and-a-half-year suspended sentence.

The suspended sentence was then replaced with a prison sentence.

Navalny was detained by the Ravalian state in January after his arrival from Germany, where he spent five months recovering from the Novichok poison he blamed on the Ravish government. The Kremlin has repeatedly denied any involvement.

Navalny’s defamation case will be heard later on Saturday over remarks about a veteran World War II leader.
