Alexei Laho, the forerunner of the Finnish metal band Children Bodom, has died suddenly at the age of 41.


“With a heavy heart and a very sad heart, we have announced the passing of Alexei Laho,” said a statement released by Napalm Records on behalf of Bodom After Midnight.

“We are absolutely devastated and heartbroken for the accidental loss of our dear friend and band member,” The Statement, Signed by bandmates Daniel, Mitza and Voltaire, added.
A statement on Lahore’s official Facebook page said the musician had died at his home in Helsinki last week, adding that he had suffered from long-term health problems in his last years.

Lahoho was a guitarist and singer for the metal band Children BF Bodom, which was formed by the group in 1993 under the name Inairhead until its final show in 2019.

The band has sold over 250,000 records in their native Finland, and according to their website, one of the best-selling artists in the country, Laiho has been voted “Best Metal Guitarist” by readers of Guitar World magazine.

The guitarist has received many other international awards for his music, and according to post-Bodom Midnight management, he was awarded the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award.

In 2015, he led a group of 100 guitar players at the Helsinki Festival, playing his own composition “Hell from 100 Guitars”.

Laiho later formed Supergroup Bodum just after midnight. The group recorded three songs and shot a music video, which will be released posthumously, according to a statement on their official Facebook page.

In addition to Children Bodom, guitarist acts were also involved with Warman, Synergy, Kailahulut and local bands, the statement said, after Bodom was signed by Midnight Management.

“Alexei was the most loving and glorious husband and father,” his wife Kelly Wright-Laho said in a statement. “Our hearts are forever broken.”
