Alex Trebek initially did not want to release his autobiography
At first, Trebek did not want to launch an autobiography. He reveals in his book that he didn’t think he had anything of value to share. Trebek sees himself as a normal guy who is no more important than other people, so he repeatedly rejected invitations from writers and editors to publish an autobiography. However, the presenter of the game show changed his mind.
Why did Alex Trebek decide to write a book about his life?
Although Trebek initially refused to publish an autobiography, he later agreed to publish the story of his life and career. After her diagnosis of stage IV pancreatic cancer, Trebek says she received a great deal of love and support from her fans. He was so overwhelmed by the care that he moved him to give his fans the gift of his autobiography. Trebek wanted to give something back to the fans who had supported him all these years. Here is what Trebek said about his decision to write the book:
In early 2019, all of that changed when I was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. At first, he was reluctant to share this news with the world. Basically I’m a private person but ultimately I decided to do it because I wanted to get ahead of the tabloids. I didn’t want them to print or manufacture all kinds of garbage.
But in making the announcement, I quickly discovered that there are millions of people who seem to care and feel that I have played an important role in their lives. I have received boxes and boxes of cards and letters from people around the world who offer their support, encouragement, advice and prayers.

Trebek says there is a large display case inside the Danger! Study full of letters and fan letters. He says this show of love convinced him to reconsider his decision to write a book. “It is a humiliating experience, but I think it deserves recognition,” writes Trebek. “It made sense to respond to that torrent of care, good wishes and prayers. What Alex Trebek’s book is not about
Trebek says he wants to make sure the book is a reflection of the highlights of his life. You don’t want your autobiography to be like any other book. Trebek admits that he is not a writer and that he really doesn’t like the idea of writing about himself. He outlines what the book will not cover.
“This is not going to be a standard memory,” writes Trebek. “We are getting to the highlight. It is a series of quick searches, revelations. It is an aperçu of Alex Trebek, human being. How is he? What have you done? How did you go wrong? That kind of things. Except for contributing to the occasional danger! Hint, I’m not a writer. And I especially don’t feel comfortable writing about myself. “
