Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Indian actress taken to the hospital with Covid-19

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was taken to the hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 earlier this week.

The Indian actress, a former Miss World and one of Bollywood’s most famous faces, is being treated at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai, reports the ANI agency.

Her daughter Aaradhya was also taken to the hospital, reports the PTI agency.

Aishwarya’s husband Abhishek and his father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, both also famous actors, have been in the hospital since Saturday with the virus.

On Sunday, Amitabh Bachchan, 77, a Bollywood superstar who has achieved world fame during her long and illustrious career thus far, tweeted that she had tested positive for the virus.

Another series of tweets from his son Abhishek, also a famous actor, confirmed that he, his wife of 46 years, Aishwarya, and his eight-year-old daughter, Aaradhya, had also tested positive.

Jaya Bachchan, also famous actress and wife of Amitabh Bachchan, tested negative.

Until now, Aishwarya Rai and Aaradhya had been isolating themselves at home.

The news that the family, often described as Bollywood royalty, had been affected by the coronavirus sent shock waves across India. This week, thousands of fans have prayed for the family’s recovery.

On Friday, India recorded a record 35,000 new cases of coronavirus cases in 24 hours, breaking the million mark.

The country now has the third highest number of cases in the world, after the United States and Brazil. The current death toll is 25,602.

The western state of Maharashtra, where Mumbai is located, remains the largest access point with the highest number of cases, over 280,000, of all states.
