EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures has released a remake of the classic John Hughes 1987 road trip comedy Airplanes, trains and cars as a star for Will Smith and Kevin Hart. Hart’s Hartbeat Productions and Smith’s Westbrook Studios will be producing. In her feature debut, Aeysha Carr will write the script. Include their TV credits Brooklyn 99 and the upcoming Hulu series Alarm clock.
The original star Steve Martin and John Candy as a disjointed duo were forced to become bunk mates and travel partners in a desperate attempt to get families home after Thanksgiving after their flights were canceled. A slew of disasters for holiday travel follow, and they mix like water and oil. Hart and Smith co-produced with Westbrook Studios Co-President and Head of Motion Pictures Jon Mone and Hartbeat’s President for Film and Television Bryan Smiley.
The film seems to be an ideal for a new version of Paramount: it was very funny, but writer / director Hughes made it exceptionally appealing considering the premiere of High Concept Road Trip. He brought two great physical comic actors to the pinnacle of their powers. Here’s a refresher course if you did not remember:
Carr most executive produced the upcoming Hulu series Alarm clock, which begins in September with lead role New girl‘s Lamorne Morris and SNL‘s Sasheer Zamata. She wrote episodes and became a supervising producer on Brooklyn 99 and was a writer on Rel, The Carmichael Show, Mixology, Everybody Hates Chris, en My wife and children.
Carr is reprized by ICM Partners, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Goodman, Genow; Hart is raped by UTA, 3 Arts and Schreck Rose; Smith is reputed by CAA
