Airbnb bans parties on its ads in the middle of COVID-19, and guests can be 16

Short-term rental company Airbnb announced a world holiday ban on Thursday with its ads amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Meetings at Airbnb rentals will also be held at 4pm as part of a new policy to promote a safer environment, the company said.

“This party ban applies to all future bookings on Airbnb and will remain in effect indefinitely until further notice,” Airbnb said in a statement.

The company notes that a majority of its existing global rental homes – 73 percent – already ban parties with their own rules.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Airbnb had already issued a new policy requiring users to adhere to socially distancing mandates established by local governments.

But, the company said, with the reversal of restrictions in some jurisdictions as phytosanitary cases subsided, came the return of internal revelers.

“Some have chosen to take behavior from bar and club to homes, sometimes rented through our platform,” the company said.

“We think that such behavior is irresponsible – we do not want that kind of business, and anyone who engages in or allows that behavior does not belong on our platform.”

Airbnb said it would take action against guests who violated the party ban.
