The 42-year-old is in his 20th with Amakhosi as a player and coach, and says the setup at Naturena played a big role in his tenure.

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Arthur Zwane has revealed that he turned down offers overseas to stay at Naturena during his playing days.

Zwane enjoyed a successful 10-year season with Amakhosi as a player before becoming a coach shortly after his retirement.

The mentor, who is now 42 years old, said that the setup at the clubhouse is similar to that of overseas teams and therefore felt there was no need for him to move.

The only time Zwane went abroad was when he left Jomo Cosmos for Santos, Brazilian giants in 1996.

However, his season was not as successful as he returned the same year to join the Orlando Pirates.

“Let me tell you something, that’s one of the reasons [the setup] even as a player, when I had offers overseas, I said, ‘no I’m not going’ because the setup here made me believe it’s more like I’m still overseas, “Zwane revealed to Kings TV.

Zwane further stated that being in Chiefs, either as a player or as a coach, one must remain focused and be prepared to work hard to be successful.

And this is what he has done since joining the Soweto giants two decades ago as a player and again as a coach.

“You just have to focus and do your best all the time and that’s what I did as a player. Even today I’m still doing the same thing; just focus and do my best and the results will come,” Zwane added.

The former Bucs winger was pushed out of professional soccer by former coach Vladimir Vermezovic in 2010 and took on the role of assistant coach to the Serbian mentor.

He was then transferred to the club’s youth structures at the same time as he was busy with his coach badges.

Zwane was appointed head coach of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) team, where he has been involved in promoting several Amakhosi first team players for the past three years.

He doubled down on that role as assistant to Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki; the position he still occupies on a provisional basis.
