JOHANNESBURG – It’s been another stormy year for the former president of the nation.
Jacob Zuma remained a key figure in the news headlines in 2020. From his refusal to return to the state capture commission, to his official request that his president, Supreme Court Vice President Raymond Zondo, recuse himself, to the Arrest warrant issued for his arrest after failing to show at his corruption trial in February.
Zuma not only refused to return and testify at the commission, but argued that his friendship with Zondo meant that he would be treated unfairly. But Zondo didn’t accept any of that.
The vice president of the Supreme Court took additional action when Zuma excused himself from the commission without his permission.
He was also somewhat active in the ruling party, and even wrote his thoughts on the state of the African National Congress in an open letter to its current president Cyril Ramaphosa.
At one point, she even let the country into her inner space during a YouTube gathering with her son Duduzane.
As the year ends, it is Zuma Junior who is becoming the center of attention, seeking traction for his own political ambitions, although very few people are considering the possibility that Ramaphosa will one day have to face him in the urns.
