EFF leader Julius Malema appears unfazed by reports of impending investigations into him, his family and the party’s deputy leader, Floyd Shivambu.

According to the Sunday Times, the state capture investigation issued SA’s major banks subpoenas to provide all financial records for Malema, and those of his wife, Mantoa, and his late grandmother, Sarah.

His lawyer, Ian Levitt, the Ratanang family trust of Malema and the companies linked to him through his allies will also be investigated.

The investigation will reportedly analyze information from at least 36 individuals and entities.

An informant from the investigation told the sunday time information was provided by alleged whistleblowers. The source said investigators are studying bank records provided to the investigation led by Supreme Court Vice President Raymond Zondo.

The investigation is also reported to be investigating Shivambu’s brother, Brian, and his companies, which allegedly profited illegally from the R2.3bn VBS Mutual Bank “heist.” The report says this is to establish whether state funds were deposited into the accounts under investigation.

While some have seen this alleged move in the investigation as a serious turnaround in the state capture investigations, Malema tweeted Sunday that he is more than willing to cooperate with the investigation.
