JOHANNESBURG – At the state capture commission Tuesday, Supreme Court Vice President Raymond Zondo expressed shock at the testimony of former South African Airways (SAA) board member Yakhe Kwinana.
Kwinana spoke about a letter in which he accused Zimbabwe’s procurement chief, Masimba Dahwa, of doing everything possible to keep the African people in economic bondage and of being part of a sinister regressive agenda aimed at reversing the transformation agenda of the government and SAA.
But Kwinana denied that this was animosity against Dahwa.
Dahwa told the commission that he rejected instructions from Kwinana and the chairman of the board, Dudu Myeni, to sign contracts without hiring.
Kwinana previously denied attending the meeting Dahwa testified about in which he said Kwinana and Myeni threatened him and told him that the Economic Freedom Fighters would protest for him and other foreigners to be deported.
Zondo expressed surprise, saying: “His behavior, you say, smacks of insubordination and conspiracy against the SAA board. You say that your attitude may be based on the fact that you did not share the agony of the people of South Africa.
“He is from Zimbabwe. He has suffered, as have the African people in South Africa. Shjoe … Anyway (sic).”
