The foundation added that it was not necessary for Zondo to comment publicly on Zuma’s excuses for not appearing, that is, preparing for his criminal trial for corruption and fraud, and for fear of contracting Covid-19.
“No witness, not even the most arrogant, not even the most petulant, has inspired the president to convene a briefing with the media simply to punish them,” the statement read.
In fact, according to the foundation, Zondo should have expected a response from Zuma’s attorneys who received a letter from the commission last Friday.
“The foundation asks the president, in dealing with witnesses, to be fair to former President Zuma, even if he has already found him guilty,” the statement read.
The foundation also appealed to Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, who appointed Zondo to chair the commission, to reign as his second in command.
Without elaborating, the foundation claimed that Zondo had a personal dispute with Zuma and accused him of playing “media gallery” to settle scores.
