The German strategist has urged the Buccaneers to end any complacency in their search for cutlery this season.
Orlando Pirates coach Jozef Zinnbauer believes his team is likely to win the Premier Soccer League title this season as long as they remove the complacency that has sapped them in recent seasons.
The pirates last won the league title in 2012, and Zinnbauer came to the club last December to take responsibility for ending the trophy drought suffered by traditional South African giants.
The German feels he must do his best to claim trophies, a task that he says is not impossible, but only if the team’s approach is correct.
“Everything is possible in football. When you have the opportunity, you can win the league, the cup and the Caf competition, “Zinnabuer told the media according to IOL,” but you have to work hard, and that is the focus we need in the team.
“You can’t say that when we have six to seven games, then we start working and then we go back to being casual. It is not possible this season. We have to fight and strive one hundred percent in every game.
“When we do that, we have a chance to win the games and then the titles.”
To prepare for next season, Zinnbauer has signed players like Thulani Hlatshwayo, Deon Hotto, Terrence Dzvukamanja, Wayde Jooste and Thabang Monare as free agents, all from Bidvest Wits.
After finishing third in the PSL standings, which qualified them for the Caf Confederation Cup, Zinnbauer is preparing his team for the challenge in Africa, a quest he is enjoying.
“When we have seven to eight weeks of preseason, we can see what is happening with the new players: with the time of integration in the club and the new environment,” said Zinnbauer. “We do not forget it.
“At this point it is important that they feel at home here. So it is important that we meet quickly.
“From there, we can get good results [the Caf Confederation Cup] and other skills that we have ”.
The Pirates begin their season with an MTN8 quarterfinal date against Cape Town.
“Cape Town is a good team,” Zinnbauer said, looking ahead to the weekend’s fight. “It is not a team that we can easily beat.
“We need a 100 percent approach. We need to dictate the game from the start.”
