Harare – Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure, flamboyant Zimbabwean socialite and businessman, who sometimes resided in South Africa, and three other people were killed in the early hours of Sunday morning when their purple Rolls Royce collided with a Honda Fit in Harare.
The state newspaper The Herald, citing Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) deputy spokesperson Paul Nyathi, reported that the accident occurred along Borrowdale Road in Harare.
“The accident happened this morning [Sunday] along Borrowdale Road and it is alleged that Kadungure died on [the] Stain. We are still gathering more information on the subject, ”Nyathi said.
The oil trader was 36 years old.
Zimbabweans took to social media on Sunday to express their shock at the “untimely” death of the head of Pioneer Gas.
Former exiled Zimbabwean cabinet minister and Zanu PF political commissioner Savior Kasuku also received their condolences.
“This is unbearable. A young man who worked hard and enjoyed himself is no more! The flower has withered! Go well Boss Ginimbi. MHDSRIP, ”said Kasukuwere, who fled to South Africa when former President Robert Mugabe was deposed.
ZimLive reported that Kadungure’s Rolls Royce collided head-on with the Honda Fit and then went off the road and crashed into a tree before catching fire.
Kadungure was reportedly thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene along with three friends identified only as Karim, Elisha and Moana, who were reportedly celebrating her birthday.
On Saturday night, Kadungure posted a video on Instagram, where he had a legion of over 600,000 followers, saying, “Guys, it’s time to get out, it’s going down. Let’s go to dreams [nightclub] in the next few minutes, it will go down. It’s Moana’s birthday, we’re going to burst champagne, there will be champagne showers tonight, see you there. “
As he gets into the waiting vehicle, Kadungure tells his followers that he is “driving [a] Rolls Royce Wraith ”. The video, also shared by ZimLive, is cut as the hit song “Hello” by Kabza by Small and DJ Mapholisa plays from the $ 500,000 car sound system.
Kadungure was the cousin of Mary Mubaiwa, the estranged wife of Zimbabwe’s Vice President Constantino Chiwenga. In the past, Kadungure has been repeatedly arrested by the ZRP for tax evasion, as he allegedly underestimated the value of his many high-end vehicles by importing them from South Africa to Zimbabwe.
His collection of high-end cars in Harare included the Rolls Royce Wraith, a Rolls Royce Ghost, three Bentleys, two Range Rovers and a Mercedes-Benz G63.
Earlier this year, it added a new Ferrari 488 Spider, valued at US $ 350,000, to its fleet. A few weeks ago, Kadungure caught the eye in the Zimbabwean capital when he purchased a $ 600,000 Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster.
