Zim Businessman Acquires Sars For Over R600m In Confiscated Gold Coins

Zimbabwean businessman Frank Buyanga Sadiqi is taking the South African Revenue Service (Sars) to court, claiming that he confiscated Kruger gold coins worth an estimated R600m, personal jewelry, watches and cell phones.

The assets were seized during an October raid in Hyde Park, Johannesburg, the home of Sadiqi’s girlfriend, Melinda Busi Dube.

This was revealed in documents filed in the Pretoria High Court by Sadiqi, who lives in Sandton in Johannesburg.

He states: “Sars illegally, without justification and without my permission and against my protests they confiscated and dispossessed me of the gold coins (Kruger) that I had with me at that time … conservatively estimated, the gold coins that were stolen from my possession is valued at more than 600 million rand. “

According to court documents, Sars’s forfeiture unit raided Dube’s home on October 26. Dube filed a police report against Sars and later took the tax service to court.

Now Sadiqi has gone to the higher court to be included in Dube’s case because he claims that the confiscated gold belongs to him.

“My participation in the events of the day the illegal Sars raid took place, and the fact that the raid was illegally perpetrated against me and the companies with which I am associated, make it essential that I be allowed to do common cause. with your request, ”he said in court documents.

Sadiqi said that the gold coins are part of the commercial stock of his African Medallion Group (AMG), a company founded in 2017. In its profile, the company states that it is “one of the most successful and trusted gold companies in the world. ”.
