Zane Kilian, charged with murder, out of court.
- Zane Kilian intends to provide an alibi to prove that he did not shoot Anti-Gang Unit detective Charl Kinnear.
- You will say you were picking up medicine at a pharmacy at the time the trigger was pulled.
- His request for bail was postponed until December 1.
The murder defendant, Zane Kilian, will provide the court with an alibi to show that it could not have been he who shot the Anti-Gang Unit detective, Lieutenant Colonel Charl Kinnear.
His attorney, Eric Bryer, said in front of the Bellville Magistrates Court that Kilian intended to show that he was looking for medicine for his son at a pharmacy at the time the murder occurred.
The chemist he went to was in Hillcrest, Springs, and Kinnear was shot and killed outside his home in Bishop Lavis on September 18.
Bryer said:
In fact, there are video footage of the exact moment the incident occurred.
Bryer also told the out-of-court media that his client did not pull the trigger: “The bottom line is that he was a jabber, not a shooter.”
Kilian’s request for bail was postponed until Tuesday, December 1, after he briefly appeared in court on Friday.
Another court appearance
Kinnear’s widow, Nicolette, was sitting at the back of the court. He left quickly after the case was postponed.
Kilian seemed to be taken by surprise at the brevity of the matter and hesitated before consulting his lawyer, Johan van Aswegen, when he would see him again.
Kilian’s judicial journal will be busy next week with an appearance in Cape Town Magistrates Court on Monday for the attempted murder of Cape Town attorney William Booth, along with co-defendants Kim Smith, Kauthar Brown, Ibrahim Deare and Riyaad Gasant.
Booth was shot while in his garage in April. He was not injured.
In the course of the investigation into Kinnear’s murder, it emerged that he had allegedly tapped phone numbers to track people in his work as a private investigator.
On Tuesday, he is expected to return to the same courthouse in Bellville for his request for bail in the Kinnear murder.
